Mowgli and Cleo weren’t just dogs—they were my real-life sidekicks who sparked a world of imagination. I had always dreamed of having a dog, but I never expected that dream to come true. Then, for my 21st birthday, it happened—I got Mowgli! I was completely speechless (and probably jumping up and down like a kid on Christmas morning). I couldn’t believe it! He was everything I had imagined and more—full of energy, big-hearted, and ready to be the best friend I could ever ask for. From the very first moment we met, I knew we were meant to be together. My life had just gotten a whole lot more exciting (and a bit more chaotic, but in the best way possible)!

Four years later, Cleo, a tiny but feisty little pup, joined the family, and that’s when the real fun began. I used to talk to Mowgli and Cleo all the time (yes, out loud!), completely convinced they understood every word. In my head, they even had their own unique “voices” and personalities, which made their playful antics even more entertaining.

The adventures they inspired—full of horses, a mysterious barn, and some very cute kittens—all grew out of my imagination, shaped by the love and laughter these two dogs brought into my life. Writing their story was like reliving those memories but with an extra dose of creativity.

One of the best parts of bringing this book to life was sharing the first draft with a class of second graders. Their excitement and ideas were incredible! They even asked the one question I hadn’t thought of—what happens to the mom cat? (Great question, right?) Now I can’t wait to explore that in future adventures.
